The growth of the digital world has exploded over the past 20 years, yet our world can’t sustainably keep up with the pace of consumption without some form of change.

OLED DISPLAYS DON't Back light black pixels
Smartphones less than 5 years old use OLED screens. These screens work by individually lighting pixels. If a black pixel is present, the display switches off the LED. This results in a 67-13% reduction in energy (depending on screen brightness).

Current working prototype
Black Pixel is a plugin that automatically optimises the number of black pixels in content without compromising quality. Simply, it turns really dark pixels to black and saves a sh*t load of energy.

IMPACT
41.41m Tonnes of C02 Saved each year
Within testing our first generation of Black Pixel, we found that we could reduce content emissions by 15-30% without affecting the image or video quality. Optimising the content on social media by 15%, would save over 41.41 million Tonnes of C02 each year (the same as driving 114 Billion miles in a petrol car).
AIM
end of project
Black Pixel to become the standard export for social media.
*Black Pixel was created by a combination of 100’s of research papers conducted on the energy output of colour profiles on OLED displays and social media emissions.
